Plinkering around on my 2600

2600

Years ago, I remember hearing an instrumental rock song with a weird sound effect during the drum solo, and I was hooked. I wanted one of those things!

The price of them today is prohibitive. Surprisingly, not that many original ones were made.

Now, another company makes them (behringer). So, since my job was issuing mad bonuses during the holidays, I ordered one. Turns out to not be as complicated as they look.

Last night, I took a break from editing to recharge, and turned on the 2600, resetting all my settings to zero and starting over. Was able to get a really good tone without overthinking things. And it was into Bach mode!

Need to work drastically on my sight reading. I’d need a Minimoog to be able to play Bach properly, because the 2600 is monophonic – one note at a time. Or I’d need to get a polyphonic synth.

By the way, once you add a tiny amount of portamento to any synth patch, it’s right away 1974 all over again.
